Wedding Heels and the Power of ‘Shoe Goo’

Welcome to “How Mini?”: the fashion advice blog in which I pull from real conversations with friends asking for my advice on where to find a particular piece, how to style a certain outfit, or what my take is on a red carpet look - and I give an answer. Who knows? You might just be asking the same questions! It isn’t easy being the token stylist friend - but someone’s got to do it! You say skirt I say, “how mini?”

I have a fun one for you today. My friend is getting married this summer, and being the creative queen that she is, is incorporating a lot of DIY elements so that her special day is just as whimsical as she is.

For her reception dress, she opted for a babydoll silhouetted dress with a high neck, adorned with pressed flowers. I know this because she gave me the honor of helping her narrow down her options during the tedious selection process.

Think Taylor Swift in that Oscar de la Renta look for the 2020 Grammy’s.

The next challenge arose in the search for shoes to pair with it. She wanted to add height to her look, and she loves her Versace platform alternatives. After finding a similar pair in bridal white over a conversation at the lunch table, we decided they’ll needed a li’l something extra: applique flowers for a custom look.

Our conversation extended itself into the later hours of the day, as we tossed around options for translating her floral vision into her dream kicks.

Her first suggestion came in the form of flower-shaped patches. They would have been cute for another project but felt more cartoony than bridal. I advised that she source synthetic yet realistic flowers like the ones on her dress, like these:

I also was harkened back to a time when a product I came upon saved my life when the sole of my favorite black boots loosened and I needed a quick fix. Shoe Goo, the magical shoe-fusing product can be used to affix the flowers to her shoes, sans any hot glue gun burns. The “goo” would also be a great tool to have on hand come the big day. Two birds one stone. Send.
